2015 Verdelho

This month’s wine of the month is the 2015 Verdelho.
Verdelho is a Portuguese variety grown on the Island of Madeira where it is used for making Fortified wines and one of the four types of Madeira.
Here it is grown in The Hunter Valley in NSW, Western Australia and South Australia predominately for white table wine. Sadly, many of these wines are sweeter and detract from the wonderful varietal characters of the variety.
The Verdelho grape makes a sensational dry table wine when picked at the correct sugar and acid content. Made correctly it will age and in fact we have a limited amount of 2003 that will delight those who like a good aged white.
The 2015 Verdelho is a dry, crisp and refreshing wine. Brilliant green-yellow in colour the wine boasts a lifted, estery passionfruit, lime and pineapple aroma.
The palate tantalises with fresh tropical flavours of pineapple and passionfruit tempered with a
lean citrus tang and finishes with an excellent balance of fruit and refreshing acidity.
